Provide Mechanical Engineering design support for Global Laser Enrichment (GLE) mechanical engineering team in the design, fab and installation projects at the GLE facility in Wilmington, NC
  • Responsible for mechanical design of components and systems.
  • Work with team to develop flow charts, facility layouts, equipment drawings, mechanical (including P&IDs) drawings, machine fabrication and assembly drawings, utilizing both 2D and 3D design packages. Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD a plus.
  • Perform basic thermal and structural modeling on designs.
  • Develop and present technical communications, participate in procedural development and component sourcing activities as needed.
  • This position is initially listed as a contract role, but could develop into a permanent staff position.
About Global Laser Enrichment (GLE): GLE is a US-based uranium enrichment company utilizing 3rd generation laser-based technology. GLE is currently in the commercial development phase of the project, on pace to deliver a plant demonstration facility at its Wilmington, NC site.

The company is located in beautiful Wilmington, NC, where it operates a secure engineering and prototyping facility and is rapidly scaling commensurate with the advanced nuclear reactor industry. GLE is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Systems Engineer to support various work activities culminating in a pilot demonstration test.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Work with mechanical design team to develop gas handling and mechanical system functional requirements.
  • Planning, procurement, installation, commissioning and operation of controls systems to automate the operation of gas handling and mechanical subsystems.
  • Programming PLCs embedded in gas handling and mechanical control systems
  • Integrate gas handling and mechanical control systems with laser subsystem controls into pilot demonstration control system strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or greater in relevant field
  • 5+ yrs experience in control systems design and specification
  • experience with specification, programming and use of Allen-Bradley PLCs and software
  • experience with pressure, temperature and motor controls
  • experience working in UF6 environment a plus
The role is subject to the incumbent's ability to hold a NRC/DoE Q-clearance as well as their ongoing ability to maintain site access.
